Six reasons to consider moving your AR Network

In a consolidating market where mergers and acquisitions continue to reduce the number of independently run brokerages, many Authorised Representatives (ARs) are reassessing whether their current network still supports their long-term goals.
According to industry feedback, a growing number of ARs are seeking alternatives that offer greater transparency, better support, and stronger alignment with their values.
Stacy Finnegan, repX’s Chief Opperating Officer, has worked with ARs for many years, and over the past six months has spoken with dozens of AR’s who feel that flexibility, support tools, and cultural fit are key to their success in today’s environment. Below she shares six reasons ARs are choosing to switch networks.
Cultural Fit and Alignment
“Perhaps the most important factor ARs mention when switching networks is cultural fit. I hear lots of ARs say they feel like “just a number”, with little recognition, limited influence, and no real partnership with their network.” comments Stacy.
Across the market ARs are increasingly seeking networks that align with their values, business ethics, and long-term vision. Whether it’s a matter of communication, community, or shared purpose, cultural alignment is often what turns a good network into the right one for an AR.
Greater Transparency on Fees
“One of the most common drivers for change is a desire for more clarity and fairness when it comes to fees. Many ARs say they’re frustrated by overriding structures that are difficult to unpack, or unexpected fees for service add-ons that eat into their profits.
When creating the AR proposition, one of the key elements that our team discussed was a transparent fee model. What did this look like? What could be considered hidden costs and so on. It’s important to us that our AR’s feel like they are supported financially and that they want to be part of the network and are not tied to it.” said Stacy.
Access to the Right Markets and Products
Whether it’s the ability to place complex risks, access specialist products, or work with a broader panel of insurers and underwriting agencies, market access matters.
Stacy comments “For ARs working in niche areas or looking to grow beyond basic business lines, a lack of product range can quickly become a roadblock. Networks who invest in market breadth and depth and give their ARs the flexibility to place a wider variety of risks are winning.”
Better Quality Support
Support doesn’t just mean answering the phone. It means proactive help across the areas that matter most: compliance, IT, admin, and training. Many brokers report that their current network offers minimal assistance, often leaving them to troubleshoot problems alone.
“We believe that an AR network should be an enabler, not a bottleneck. Whether it’s onboarding a new staff member or getting quick answers to compliance questions, ARs are seeking networks that understand the day-to-day realities of running a brokerage.”
Smarter Compliance Frameworks
Regulatory obligations continue to evolve but so too should the way networks help ARs manage them.
Many ARs voice frustration about rigid compliance frameworks that create unnecessary red tape, delays in advice or approvals, or inconsistent expectations.
What brokers want is a system that protects clients and satisfies regulators without over-complicating the job. More agile frameworks, like those used at repX, are built to give ARs clarity and confidence, not confusion.
Technology That Keeps Up
The tools you use every day, from broking platforms to CRMs to claims portals, directly affect your productivity and client experience. Many ARs still find themselves working on outdated systems, struggling with clunky software or limited functionality.
“Networks investing in modern, integrated platforms are giving brokers an edge. At repX, we’ve prioritised tech that supports growth: scalable, user-friendly, and designed for today’s market.”
As the insurance landscape shifts, it’s not surprising to see ARs re-evaluate their position. The decision to move isn’t just about costs or systems, it’s about whether your network is supporting your ability to thrive in the current market.
If any of these points resonate with you, it could be time to take a closer look at your options.
